Wolves and bears have long fascinated me. Throughout my career, they have appeared again and again in my work—not simply as wildlife subjects, but as powerful symbols of the North.
In Guardians, a wolf and grizzly move together through darkness, illuminated by a warm rim of light. Their forms emerge from shadow almost like ancient presences, carrying a sense of quiet strength and watchfulness.
The painting was inspired by the feeling that certain animals become more than subjects. Over time they become companions of the imagination—totemic figures that represent courage, wisdom, resilience, and the enduring spirit of the wild.
Rather than depicting a specific place or moment, Guardians explores the relationship between two of the North’s most iconic animals. Together they create a powerful image of protection, presence, and belonging to a world far older than ourselves.
